The sample starts with copying the Gospel text from your favorite electronic translation. (This happens to be the RSV. I also like NASB.) Then it's pasted onto a template. (Go to the next page to download a Mac Pages or Microsoft Word template.)
I suggest Arial Narrow Bold 12 point. It's space-efficient and very readable. Delete verse numbers, and finish out header. If the text is more than one page, then add "Page x of y" in the header. Paste the overflow text onto another template sheet, but delete the marking cross from pages two and beyond for clarity. You may wish to add superscript element markings in the text. That means you will be composing the music as you go. This is useful for living with Jesus' words. Save and print each template sheet. Then write the notes. Crosscheck the "feel" of the music as you go to see how it compares with your first impressions while working with the printed text. You may wish to color code the four basic elements. I find the colors to be useful as I sing to avoid any "deer in the headlights" problems. |
